words going past the one cell

this is really simple i am sure. but i don't remember how.
if i type december in a cell that is not wide enough - it happily uses the next cell(s) .
if i have a date in there, that comes out as december 2014 - i just get #####.
wot am i doin rong?
how do i format the cell properly?

There are about 3 or 4 ways to do this. Double Clicking on the line between the column heads also does an Auto Column Width.

Sorry, i forgot to add, i do not wish to change the width of the column as it is used for other stuff.

OK - Then you get to select the cell and click on Wrap Text.

Wrap text allows you to place text on multiple lines within a single cell rather than have the text spread over multiple cells in the

i solved it. i merged the cell the date is in with the neighboring cells.
