counting how many cells are amber - possible without VB?

Hi all,

Further to here, can Excel count how many cells in a column are amber? They are amber because of conditional formatting. There are different conditional formats for things like whether the cell is blank, it is greater than another cell, it isn't a date when it should be and so on.

Andy Pope kindly explained how to do that with Visual Basic. However, I have very little access to Visual Basic where I am.

Can Excel do it without VB?

do you have a separate table of data the conditional formatted cells are referring to? if so you could use a formula to count the figures in that table

You can add filter and filter by color and then use SUBTOTAL function to count remaining cells.

And that says how many cells there are. Then I filter to get ambers only. It then says how many cells there are after it's been filtered, which just happens to be how many ambers there are in the column. Excel doesn't know it's counting ambers, but it still helps.
