Multiplication Bug - Excel (Office) 2010

I have been running this exercise in Excel on my computer, and getting erroneous results (as is Excel, on a friend’s computer).

    http://raivynnsroost.blogspot.com.au...y-day-for.html

My formula is “0.01” in A1 and “=(A1*2)” in A2 (without the quotes).

I then dragged A2 down the column, as far as I like…

I have formatted the spreadsheet as shown on page 1 of the attachment, and the error is on page 2 (it starts on row 51, among the cents).

    Both computers are running:

    Office Home & Student 2010
    Windows 7 64-bit (SP1)

    Hello mgs,

I cannot determine what your problem is by looking at a picture. Please could you upload a sample Workbook for us to have a look at.?

    Thank you.

    Hello mgs,

    Thank you.

Now this is very interesting, and something I did not know, until now.

Have a look at this site, where Excel limitations are discussed.

Excel truncates your numbers to 15 significant digits. For example, if you enter this number in Excel:

    123456789123456789

Excel truncates it to this. Notice that Excel doesn't even round it correctly; instead it just replaces all digits after the 15th digit with zeros:

    123456789123456000

    Best regards.
