I've tried searching for what I need but other posts don't quit match my situation.
I am trying to establish conditional formatting to simply color code cell data, red or green, based on a goal in another cell. I can do this with no problem in one row. My problem is that I have 8 rows of data each with a different goal. I set up the formatting for the first row, then copy/paste to the remaining rows. Then I go back, select the row I want to change, click on Manage Rules in the conditional formatting area, I change the reference cell for the goal and hit okay.
The goal reference cell is B3 and the data is in cells C3 thru O3, this is repeated down the sheet for the rest of the rows so it's not complicated.
My problem is that when I do this, it also changes the reference cell for the source row that I copied from even though it wasn't selected. I am using $ to lock the cell reference but it still changes.
I used to be able to do this very easily in Excel 2003 but they've made some kind of change for Office 2010 that prevents it. Very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any help, Mike E
