Conditional Formatting on expiration dates.

Hi

I am trying to set up a Excel spread sheet for training where it highlights the cell in a different colour if expired and if another if getting close.

I understand that it can be done using Conditional Formatting but this isn't one of my strongest subjects and it would be handy if someone could explain it to me.

what time scale for getting close ?

for expired

=C4<today()
will highlight when the date is below today

you can add a number of days - so its getting close - say 5 days
=C4<today()-5

for 2007 or 2010 excel version

Highlight applicable range >>
C4:C8

Home Tab >> Styles >> Conditional Formatting
New Rule >> Use a formula to determine which cells to format
Edit the Rule Description: Format values where this formula is true:

=C4<today()

Format… [Number, Font, Border, Fill]
choose the format you would like to apply when the condition is true
OK >> OK

Repeat for the next condition
