What is this CAD object in excel?

    Please see attached excel file:

    test.xlsx

In this there is a rectangular shape drawn on CAD and copied and pasted directly from CAD into excel. I did this as the quality was reduced when printing this CAD file as an image and then using it as a picture in excel.

    My questions are:

What exactly is this file in excel? I ask because it doesn't seem like an ordinary image in excel, when it is double clicked with a CAD package open it will open the model up in CAD.

Can it be stored externally? For example an image file can be in png or jpeg format and stored outside the excel file in a directory and accessed through VBA, can the same be done for this file type without the user having access to a CAD package?

Still stuck with this and would appreciate any help. All I need to know is if this "object" can be stored externally outside the excel file.

It's an embedded object, and I don't think there is any way to save it as a file in the original format.

Thank you for replying, I greatly appreciate your help with this problem.

The reason I used this embedded object was because of the print quality required, with a png or jpeg or even a simple print screen of the image I get bad picture print quality (all lines are pixelated), would you suggest any file format which can get past this problem and can be stored externally of the excel workbook?

Some programs (e.g., Visio) support rendering a jpg file. Does your CAD program?
