How do I retrieve data that I've lost? Re-opened the document was working on

    Hi,
I was working on a document that I do monthly. I went to go reopen last months to compare and accidently opened that same document. Not reading this following message I clicked 'yes' and lost the data I had been working on "Document ___ is already open. Reopening will cause any changes you made to be discarded. Do you want to reopen Document __?" Very foolish mistake.
Is there anyway I can retrieve this data? I went into File>Recent>Recent workbooks and it brought up the document without the information I've been inputting for the last hour.
Is there any other way I can get this data? Is it stored on some backup software on the computer at all? !hopeful!
    Thanks!

Backing up files only happens if you set it up yourself, but it's an essential process and you can automate it. I am somewhat of a back-up zealot, and run a back-up procedure every day. I have local (external hard drive) and cloud back-ups. You can't be too careful.
