Comparing two different excel documents

Hi,

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong place, newcomer to the site (although have received help from articles on here before) and still getting used to it.

Secondly, my problem:
I have two different documents, for ease, lets say, file 1 and file 2.
File 1 has one column which contains clients names (first and second name in same cell, separated by a space).
File 2 has three columns, column A has first names, column B has surnames and column C has phone numbers.

What I'm trying to do is compare the data so that any duplicate names from file 1 and file 2 are shown and the number highlighted.

Is it possible to do this, if so can someone tell me how?

Open both files and use this formula in file 2
=vlookup(a1&" "&b1,'file 1!'A1:a10,1,0)
If you get a error there is no duplicate

Hi and thanks for the reply,

I have done this but it is not working? I've got both files open and have pasted the formula in but it's not working? I have changed the names of the files to file 1 and file 2 for now to make this easier. I know there are duplicates as I've done a 'find' on a few random names.
