Custom Date format for excel- mmyy

    Hello,
I am running into a problem entering a custom date format in excel.

I am trying to format a column so the date can only be in mmyy format or 0615 for example. I have tried the mmyy format, but it always changes the date to something different. My biggest concern is that the 0 be available so the date format is always 4 digits.

    Any thoughts?

The mmyy format (in custom) works but you must enter in the whole date in the cell so it will format. 6/21/14 will become 0614

Is there any way that I can change it to accept just 0614?

currently using custom format of mmyy if I enter 0617 for example it automatically changes the date to display as 0901 and in the formula bar it shows 9/8/1901.

Because its configured for a date...dates have m/d/yy....if you want to enter just 4 numbers it may be: ####.
But there's no error handling if the month goes > 12.

I ended up just using the data validation tool to set the character length to exactly 4 and an input message to let the user know how the date needs to be entered. this worked out to accomplish what I needed this column to do.
