Paste rows without overwriting other rows (automatically shift other rows down)

I have googled around and there seems to be no built-in way to do this in Excel - which if is true seems kinda ridiculous to me. The only thing I've come across is if you know before hand the number of rows you are pasting and then you can select that same number of existing rows and use "insert". This is what I'm trying to achieve:

    (before paste)
    A
    B
    C

(after pasting unknown number of rows)
    1
    2
    ...
    n
    A
    B
    C

Is there really no built-in way to do this?

Copy the rows then select where you want to paste them and click Insert - Copied Cells. The existing rows will move down to make room for the new rows.

Did you try "Insert Copied Cells"?

You don't need to select a corresponding number of rows; just select the one row above which you want the rows to paste and do Insert.

Or, if you're (cutting / copying) the rows, select them, press and hold the (Shift key / Ctrl and Shift keys), and drag to where you want them.

Thanks for your replies! OK, so it can be done easily if what you're pasting are actually contents from Excel cells. However in my case I was pasting external content (cells from pdf tables actually), and there was no "insert copied cells" option on right-click. I guess the ideal thing to do in that case would be to first paste that data somewhere else in the spreadsheet then do "insert copied cells".

"Insert - Copied Cells" does not exist.
