In the example provided, there is nothing in column A or column B. You will also need to explain what the conditions are that cause the cells to be highlighted.

so clisk on C2 - conditional formating - use formula to determine which cell to format and apply this formula:

Condition is in column D. if column D cells contains "yes" it should find relevant cell in column C and format it.
ex: D2 has yes, so it should format C2:C4,
