    Sorting numbers... correctly

I am working from a spreadsheet (XL2003) dumped from the BOM of a CAD program. I'm having trouble sorting numbers, Excel wants to sort them 1, 10, 100, 2, 20, 200.... (as an aside, is behavior this a candidate for "Most Moronic Microsoftism?) The first thing I do when working with the BOM spreadsheet is make a column at the beginning and number the cells, this is so I always have a reference to re-sort the BOM in the order it was originally dumped from the CAD, and, weirdly, THIS column always sorts in numerical order...???? I've formatted the column that's acting wonky as numbers, but to no avail. How do I teach EXCEL to COUNT???

Are you sure your "numbers" are actually numbers and not text?

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Here's a .xls with the offending column. I formatted it as Number, but it didn't help. I had the decimals set to 2-place, but the "numbers" didn't change, so I think they're not really numbers (just pictures of numbers??). If they are text, where do I choke EXCEL to make them numbers? Thanx.

To convert text to numbers do next:

Select Column A, go to Text to Columns, select Delimited, then Next, Next and Finish. This will convert them to numebrs.
