    Generic Link Address's

Hi, Thanks for looking. If this is the wrong forum or it has been addressed elsewhere just let me know.

I built a spreadsheet that takes data from several other spreadsheets and does some comparison and analysis. A buddy of mine saw it and was like "Dude, can you hook me up?". I said sure thing.

My question involves the addresses used for the other spreadsheets that it pulls data from. Currently the path to the lookup file is C:\computerName\profileName\UserSettings\Desktop\abc.xls

Some of the files are in different directories as well. Which is all well and good since it is my computer. But, I need to finesse it a bit if I am going to help my friend out.

I'd like to wrap it all up into a single folder that he can unzip to his desktop. Of course my lookup file is going to be on a different path to the "desktop". Is there a way to have excel look for the files starting at the desktop or am I going to have to walk my friend thru reassigning the links?

    can you share sample files.
Did you mean, you want data from other files to another file?
If any criteria required plz specify.

You need to locate the user's Desktop folder. See if this helps:

I'm afraid I dont have a sample. There is no special criteria. It is mostly vlookup or index/match on an outside set of spreadsheets. Pretty straightforward. The first time it opens it is going to make an error message and I can walk him through reassigning the links. I was just trying to make it a bit easier to give out if other co workers like the solution. Thank you for responding though.

Just in case someone comes by and has the same question .... I have not tried this yet since I just found it. But the first read looks really promising.
