Excel Bracket help

Hi - I am trying associate each cell in column A with (1) – so that when I add up certain cells in a total, it actually adds up numbers and I get a total number of points (1 point per correct pick). I initially used the define name, insert value for each team. However, this is not what the person who sent me the excel had in mind. I also tried VLOOKUP, created a table and used this formula to calculate points =VLOOKUP("Brazil",$A$2:$B$41,2,TRUE).

Instead, I need the names in each category. The whole idea was that I have all the brackets populated with the cell (say A4) and so if I can associate the A column with a point each, then I can sum the passing teams in a total and use that formula along the whole set of people – and I would get the total of points each person got. So say if Brazil and Mexico advanced, and they were a point each, everyone who picked them would get 2 points and everyone who didn’t won’t. I am attaching the sample bracket with each persons picks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
