How do I set a cell to only accept values between 11.25 and 13.75.

I am creating a spreadsheet based on an analytical test method. The value with error is 12.5±10% m.g. or 11.25-13.75 m.g. I need the cell to display a red "X" to the right of the value when the it is not in the range and a green check mark when the value is in the range. And/or how do you make a dialogue box appear when a value is entered not in the range. Thanks.

Hi Stephen and welcome to the forum,

I think you are looking for Data Validation where you specify a value range that is allowed... See:

    http://www.exceldigest.com/myblog/20...07-date-range/

Instead of a date range you will simply put in values ranges.

Although the title sounds like data validation, the description sounds like conditional formatting. The values outside the tolerance range are actually allowed, but must be flagged. See attached. However, the symbols are to the left of values.

    Thank you.
I used Validation to allow the cell to only accept values between my range of numbers. I used conditional formatting in other parts of the sheet to allow the cell to accept all values, but place a red "x" beside values not in range and a green check for ones that are in the range.

Did any of the above solve your problem?
