    Mind blank - percentages

Sorry to ask such a simple question, but I'm having a total mind blank. I have two sets of data - I need to calculate the percentages of these.
e.g: One cell has 313 and the other 87. I need a formula that shows the percentage of the 400 - i.e 313 is X% and 87 is Y% (both percentages in seperate cells)

    Thanks in advance guys!

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

    400 / 313 = %
    400 / 87 = %

    Or

    Sum / # = %

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

Thats the one! Thank you so much!! You won't believe how long my small brain has been working on that!

I do have one more you might be able to help with - slightly trickier! I need to add up a total based upon a number of rules on a seperate tab. Essentially there will be 'currency' in V or W (or both) and I need to add these together and deliver the amount onto a seperate Tab. The other rule is to deliver it based upon the name of a product in C. There are 47 products and each could be either V,W or both! So if Product A has a V and W value - I need to add together and deliver to a different tab.

    Any Ideas?

Two options for me to help, either give me the cell references and the rules and names of the tabs or you can upload your spreadsheet with false data if the data need to stay secure and then i can help.

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

    Amazing! thank you!

    TabName: Detail
    V2:V47 = Fee (Currency:Sterling)
    W2:W47 = Referral (Currency:Sterling)
C2:C47 = Brand (There are 12 brands to select from a drop down - I am trying to automatically calculate each brands spend as and when data is added)

    TabName: Summary
A4:A16 = 'Brand names': each brand has its own row of data
AY4:AY16 = 'Total Cost': Where the data (££) gets delivered

    Is this enough for you?

    =SUM(Detail!V:W,IFC2="Brandnamehere")

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

If understand your layout correctly you can do this many ways.

I presume on the summary tab in AY4 is where you want the Detail columns V and W summed if it equals the name brand. Then put this formula in cell AY4 and then drag it down to AY16.

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

Jesse that is fantastic! You've honestly saved me days and days of work! (probably even longer)

The only other that you might be able to help with (i'm probably taking a liberty here) is: I have created a calendar to select "Live date" and "Resolved Date" - is it possible to work out the process time based upon the selected start and end date if using the calendar to select dates and insert the time in days in a cell?

Thanks again so much for your help!

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

Let me see if i understand.

Lets pretend that cells A1 is the live date or start date and that A2 is the resolved or end date. You choose for A1 June 1 2014 and for A2 you choose June 30 2014. You want to know the difference in the number of days between the two. Thus the answer would be 29. Is my understanding correct? If so you just simply have a formula

and is formatted to a number instead of a date. If not try to explain more.

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

    Hello,

    Back for some help!

I need to figure out how to create what I think is quite a complex sum.

I need a sum that will calculate two varients of cost. Sept to Sept - where sept to dec is on cost, and a different cost occurs from dec to sept.

EG: Sep to Dec = a third of £25'000 | Jan to September = 3 quarters (of the year) at £25'000 = the Sept to Dec at £26'200. Then repeating at £26'200 Sept to Dec, then again Jan to Sept

    Does this make sense?

I can't tell what you are doing with the chart but, you are counting September twice. January to September then September to December. Are your ranges actually January 1 to September 30 and October 1 to December 31?

Are the 25000 and 26000, totals divided among the Volumes or are they multiplied by the volumes?

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

Thanks Newdoverman. It's not such a big issue but essentially, it's an apprenticeship calculation, so likely mid Sept.(when graduating in the UK) What I'm trying to do is calculate total costs for a year. So by adding all of the cash price, and multiplying by the people on the scheme.

£25'000 and £26'200 is what apprentices would be paid each. So if we had 6 between Sept and December, then it would cost £25'000 divided by 4 (quarters in a year) times by 6 (total employed)

    Re: Mind blank - percentages

First Observation: Summer is 8 weeks that is a calculation of =(25000/6)*20 =83,333 However 8 weeks isn't 1/6 of a year it is 2/13 of a year. This makes the calculation =((25000*8)/52)*20 =76,923

The value of 125000 I can see where that comes from but the rest of them....no.
