Counting number of events/pivot table/graph

Hello!

My ultimate goal is to take my spreadsheet listing a large number of events and attendees and create a graph that gives a breakdown of the distribution of events by type.

The spreadsheet looks something like this

Event A_________Date 1_________Type 1_________John
Event A_________Date 1_________Type 1_________Kate
Event B_________Date 2_________Type 1_________Mary
Event C_________Date 3_________Type 2_________Lisa
Event C_________Date 3_________Type 2_________Will
Event D_________Date 4_________Type 3_________Jim
Event E_________Date 5_________Type 2_________Bob

Etc. (Note I don't need the date for my information, I was just including it to give an idea of what I'm working with.)

I'm trying to create a pivot table that lists the all the different Types and then the number of Events that each Type has, so I can make a graph that shows it. Any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks for the help and the quick reply! That's not quite what I'm looking for... I don't need to include what events are in each type, I just need a numerical representation of the number of unique events that fit by type.

That is to say, the graph should have the three event types on the bottom axis, and the number of unique events that fall under that type should be represented by the bar.

The challenge I've faced is finding a way to count the unique events and then have the pivot table count them categorized by event type...

Hmmm... Maybe I'm explaining this incorrectly.

I don't want it broken down by the event whatsoever. I just want to figure out how many unique event entries correspond to each event type. I want excel count up the number of unique event entries (as in, each entry of event 1 would only count as 1, and each entry of event 2 would only count as 1) and then display how many Events were listed for each Type. Each Event can only have one Type, and multiple rows for the same Event are only listing additional attendees.

The pivot table I'm looking for would look like this

Event Type____________Count of Unique Events

Marketing______________2
Client Entertainment_____20
Content session_________15

Etc.
