Why Excel takes a lot of memory for connection with another file?

A have a form in Excel that has lookup field, and values for that lookup are kept in another csv file with external data connection. On opening the primary file data from second file are loaded, and I have set to Remove external data from worksheet before closing. Size of Data file is around 5 MB. The issue is that as soon as I save that connection primary file size increases for around 1 MB in the Xls format, and for about 400 KB in Xlsx format. Why does just one connection string take so much memory, does it also save some cache or something and if so can I turn it of ? Reason why I need this is because I have to upload the primary file and I want it the smallest size possible.

Could you share how it can be done? Is this an option in the saving menu or an external tool?

Its an option under the Save As window - click the file type just below the file name

However, it is an option that came out with 2007, if you are using 2002 as your profile says, you dont have that option
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
