# Calculate time to cover a distance

1. ## Calculate time to cover a distance

Hi all, this is normally a very simple thing to calculate and I know how to calculate for speed, distance and time or SoDiT as we learnt at school..

I have a period of time where a distance in feet is covered. Lets say 1 hour 25 minutes to cover 12,600 feet, just over two miles.

What I need to solve for in this case is not speed exactly, but how long it takes to cover 10 feet in this scenario.

I start to do the math in excel and then the formatting jumps when I set to hh:mm:ss and I get confused whether I'm multiplying or dividing by 60 and it all becomes a mess.

Can you help?

2. ## Re: Calculate time to cover a distance

I would disregard the time formatting for this exercise. 1 hour 25 minutes is 85 minutes.

In A1, 12,500
In A2, 85
In A3, = A1/A2
In A4, = A3*10

3. ## Re: Calculate time to cover a distance

Hi guys, I'm really struggling with this. It seems so simple and the formatting is causing me great issue.

I've converted time into decimal units then I lose track of the answer. I need to know how many minutes it takes to cover 10 ft based on the input times and distance. Can anyone help solve for the yellow filled cell attached?

May have solved this if someone can just confirm?

5. ## Re: Calculate time to cover a distance

I believe You miscalculated, it does not take you 36 minutes to go ten feet, in fact it takes you 0.36 minutes. Cheack the file.
