Default Nonblank cells in a range, to show an even split of the inserted Total amount?

Hi all!

I have a seemingly simple problem. But I'm terrible at excel

I have a total of $12,000 (cell P71) which is to be divided evenly by the number of cells that are not blank between July (Cell D71) and June (Cell O71) as seen below. I'm trying to find a formula to automate this so that if I delete a months figure (make it blank), the total of $12,000 will be split evenly into the remaining nonblank cells. I hope this makes sense! I tried inserting in the month cells =P71/COUNT(D71:O71) but it gives me a circular error?

Also when I change the total in P71 (the total of $12,000), I'm hoping it will automatically divide that into the remaining months that are not empty cells.

any help appreciated! thanks guys

1st, Please upload a sample of your workbook, not a picture of your data. Pictures are pretty much impossible to edit, and no-one wants to re-type your data for you
Also, not all members can upload picture files (Company firewalls and stuff)

Your workbook should show a small desensitized example of the data you are working with and a manual mockup of the expected results.

2nd, please upload your workbook to the forum, not all members are able (or willing) to download files from file-hosting sites
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: Default Nonblank cells in a range, to show an even split of the inserted Total amount?

excel problem.xlsx finally figured out how to attach! didnt look at the advanced settings!

Basically all i'm trying to do is to make it so that when I put a number in "Total" e.g. P3, that it is distributed evenly to the nonblank (greater than zero) months of the year to the left of it from D3 to P3. and if I delete one of those cells (due to budget not being spent in a particular month) that the Total will remain the same and it will be redistributed to the remaining months (e.g. they increase in budget).

so e.g. if I type in 12000 budget and there was only 4 months that werent empty between D3 to P3 there would be 12000/4=3000 in each month. If I wipe off a month that would mean 12000/3= 4000 in each month.

I am also hoping to be able to change the total budget amount at anytime.

cheers!
