What is the difference between "Format as Table" and "Sort and Filter"

What is the difference between "Format as Table" and "Sort and Filter"? My boss is asking me this quesiton and I do not know how to answer. I use the Format as Table and she likes the Sort and Filter. Thoughts please? Google didn't help any

Check this out. If all you want is sorting and filtering, both of them can do it and they work exactly the same. But if you are interested in quick formatting, quick summing, etc., a table would come in handy.

Format as a table will actually format the data as a table, sort and filter wont.
