Pivot table displaying incorrect Column data

I have a pivot table and for one of the columns it is just displaying the letter "d". I go to the source data and it is something else (actually the correct label for that row). I double click it and the detail for that column it is showing the correct data, don't know why it's labeling that row as "d" any ideas? It should be a name, and it's just showing "d".

The detail has the name, when you double click and it gives you the detail breakout, it also has a name, why is the pivot showing something else? Any ideas?

I only have Excel 2010 but you might try reselecting the data for the pivot table. If there is data in the rows above the headings for the Pivot Table, insert a blank row between those rows and the headings for the data.

Re: Pivot table displaying incorrect Column data

I have Excel 2010, I've tried everything, renaming the cell, typing in another name, nothing seems to update. When I type in a new name it changes to that name, but when I change it back to the orginal name (by typing it in), it gives me "d". Why is it doing that?

This is weird. I could make many guesses and not hit the mark.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Re: Pivot table displaying incorrect Column data

I just deleted the pivot and did it over, now it's pulling the right data. I'd like to think I'm pretty good with Pivots, but this case was strange. Just for one of my line items it was giving another name ("d"), everything else was coming in correctly. and the source data had no "d" anywhere. Well deleted the pivot and entered a new one and all is well now. Would like to know, can you rename a line item in a pivot? Maybe i did it accidently?

You can rename items by right clicking the item in the field list where entered in the lower area (row labels, values) Choose Field Settings and you can change the name there.

I have had problems when I renamed columns in the source data and ended up re-defining the data source to get things back on track.

Right Click and Field Settings changes the column label. I'm talking about one of the items in the column was renamed to "d". Can you change the name on an item within a column?

If you changed the name of a data item in the data area, that shouldn't have caused a problem unless you enter say text in a numeric column. That will cause #Value errors.

I think in your case that a "corruption" of some kind crept into the workbook and caused the problems. You may never know the "why" of it.

Re: Pivot table displaying incorrect Column data

I think you are right, someone must of typed over the data set with a "d" and it became "d" for all the lines related to it. Only fix is to type it back to what it was, but that corrupts all the data related to it because now when you change it in your source the typed one does not get updated. Thank god redoing the pivot wasn't that hard, quicker fix than figuring out how to relate it back to it's source. Thanks for the help.

Re: Pivot table displaying incorrect Column data

I'm having the same issue, except the row label in the pivot table is showing as "C" instead of the actual row label. I'm running office pro plus 2016 on windows 2010
