Shrink/trim worksheet to rightmost/lowest filled cell?

Assume I filled some cells of a worksheet (in Excel 2007).

Now I place the cursor in one of the cells and dragged the cursor to the right side.
As a result more and more empty columns are automatically added at the right side even I do not enter something.
Similarly rows are added at the bottom when cursor is dragged downwards.

Correspondingly the horizontal (and vertical) slider shrinks because the dimensions of the matrix grows.

Is there a menu/function which let me do the opposite?

Something like a trim/shrink function which cuts/deletes all empty columns beginning from the right side resp. rows from the bottom?

.... but not from the left and topmost side.

if you fill/drag EMPTY cells across and down then the sliders change size but as soon as you slide them back left and up they restore to the original size

Are you talking about just setting the printable area or the zoom?

Ok, lets ask in another way:

Assume I place the cursor in column "V"

How can I tell Excel: "delete everything eastwards (including content of column V)" ?

Ok, do you mean all columns to the right (not rows)?

If you want to delete all the columns to the right of U, do this:

Highlight all of column V by left-clicking on the letter V above the cell V1. Hold down Cntrl + Shift and press the right arrow key.

Keep pressing the right arrow button (while holding cntrl and shift) until you get to the final column. Then righ-click and select delete.

    Sorry, this does NOT work!

Is there really no function/menu "crop to selected rectangle of cells" ?

Re: Shrink/trim worksheet to rightmost/lowest filled cell?

Hmm... I'm still not clear on whether you want to adjust how it looks on the screen (zoom) how it looks on a print (page setup > print area) or whether you want to clear out the contents of the cells past a certain cell.

Holding down Cntrl toggles the excel end mode.... it's been around for every version of excel i've ever worked with. Read more about the cntrl shortcuts here (as my explanation was not enough)
