Pivot Table- Data no longer in table source still showing

I ran into a small problem on my pivot table

On the Column Labels I've used the column 'Courses' from my table.
I've used a field for a report filter and have a Slicer for it. This is to select different 'Depots'

But since creating my pivot table I've changed a few names of a couple of courses.

On the column label 'Courses' I ticked the setting "Show items with no data". This is so the same columns are shown for each depot that I select because I have to copy and paste the data to a pre made seperate workbook.
However the old courses that I renamed are still showing (with blank data). How to I get rid of them?

Sounds like you probably need to refresh the data.

    Select the Pivot table:

In the special "PivotTable Tools" section, pick the "Options" ribbon, and in the data panel, click the "Refresh" button.
    Keyboard shortcut: ALT+F5

Also a good idea: on the fartherst left Panel in that Options ribbon, at the bottom of the "PivotTable" panel, click the Options/Options button to open the "Pivot Table Options" Dialogue box. The click the "Data" tab, and in the "Pivot Table Data" section, activate the third checkbox down: "Refresh data when opening file".

No that's not it sorry. I've refreshed it already

It's showing the newly named courses with the correct summed data, but also showing the old names and blank data

Click in the Pivot Table, click on the Options Tab, click on Change Data Source and re-select the source data for the pivot table. This should reset the headers to what actually exists.

Right-click the pivot table, choose Pivot Table options, select the Data tab and set the 'Number of items to retain per field' to None.

    Thanks, seems to have worked.

I also eventually found that if you go into the pivot table options > data tab > retain items deleted from the data source, and change that to None
