I need to search a column for a particular word string and find all rows with that string

    Greetings,

I am certain this has been asked and answered many times but I am having difficulty finding an example that matches my needs. I have a worksheet that lists about 2,000 inventory items. one example of the contents of a column might be: "Dual Trip Coil Assy, ABB, 578B05201" and I may be searching for the word "coil". I would like to return the contents of an adjacent column (which has the catalog number), or even just the row number. As the catalog numbers are listed, sequentially, from smallest to largest, I can easily find that. I would also like to be able to easily change the word string that I am searching for to return a new answer(s). The way it is now, I have to visually scan for a word from thousands of entries.

My guess is that someone has posted this information and my hope is that someone will be kind enough to direct me to that particular post. I apologize for redundancy, but I searched as best as I could without finding the results I was seeking.

    Respectfully - Baran

If your list is in column A and the value that you want to find is in say D1, this formula will give you the row that the value is located in.

    Formula: copy to clipboard

If the value isn't found and you want a warning this will do it. You can change the Not Found to whatever you like. Change the cell references in either formula to suit your needs:

    Formula: copy to clipboard
