Ghost pages in Print Layout view, Excel 2013

I don't understand what exactly you're asking after?

You've set the View to "Page Layout", right? So it's showing the worksheet split up to show where the cells would sit on printed pages. So in that case... what's the problem?

Or is that there's more than one sheet that's being pulled in as an "Active Sheet" when you go to the print command? In that case there might be cells with hidden content (eg, with the "" empty text string) that are "active" but not actually displaying anything.

Anyway, try "Page Break Preview"; it should be next to "Normal" or "Page Layout" view in the menu. That will create a draggable blue outline; everything inside that box will display normally, everything outside will be grayed. I think that might accomplish what you want.

If that doesn't deliver the appearance you want, you might try hiding the rest of everything.

I don't want to display my spreadsheet in Page Break Preview, I want and need to see it in Page Layout View, so that complex headers can be entered and edited. That is our main use of PLV here. It's not just me; I have to provide methods and solutions for the whole office.

If possible I don't want to have to specifically 'hide' all the 'virtual' (i.e. empty) rows and columns each time I open a spreadsheet (as suggested by pgc01). I just want Page Layout View to show only the Print Area I have defined.
