sum values of all categories (dropdown list)

    Hi Folks,

I have a bunch of transactions sorted by date, and next to them I have a collumn with a dropdown list I've made that sort them into categories.

Now, what I'd like to do is to summarize each category. So I'd get something like:
    Category Total
    Salaries 100,000
    Software 5,000
    Etc

I've (randomly) tried with Advanced sorting, data consolidation, sub total.. Sub total came close, except it doesn't check the entire span first, it stops at each change.

    Any ideas a much appreciated!

    Try using the SUMIF function.
    Example:
This formula returns the sum of Col_C values where the Col_A value equals "Salaries"

Also, if you put SALARIES in a cell...Z2..you can reference that cell

Is that something you can work with?
