Populate a cell with date each time a 2nd cell is edited

Morning ALL,

I am trying to see if there is a different method to achieve the above mentioned problem

I have a solution at the moment "=IF(ISBLANK(A1),"",IF(C1="",NOW(),C1))"

the GOAL is that C1 will update with the last time that the cell A1 was edited.

This function works fine BUT it requires that ITERATION is turned ON, because as you can see the function contains a Circular Reference

I originally built this into Excel 2003, and i was wondering does anyone know if there is
an Excel 2007 solution.
