Shade different areas between two lines different colors

Need help shading areas between two intersecting lines different colors. Think of a combination of column or bar charts that only are visible in the area between two lines. I've tried using area/stacked area charts as well as error bars but it hasn't solved the problem yet. Appreciate any help.

I expect the technique used here: http://peltiertech.com/WordPress/fil...n-excel-chart/ or here http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...thlyTemps.html could be adapted to your desired effect.

Re: Shade different areas between two lines different colors

Thanks for helping MrShorty. I've tried using the technique in both links but this only seems to work when series do not intersect or rather the lines do not. When the areas I need to shade intersect the boundaries these techniques don't seem to work. I am using a column chart with gap set to 0 and shading bars different colors.... Then color the base and top white so only the area between the lines are left showing. See attachment 'Graph 2'

It's not something I use, but the example he shows at the end of the first link shows shading between intersecting lines (see the "blank" fill area), so it appears that his use of an XY/area chart combination should be able to shade between your intersecting lines. If we are not getting it to work, I would guess it is because we are not understanding something in Peltier's technique rather than his technique is unsuitable. I think my first suggestion would be to spend some more time with Jon's tutorials to better understand how his technique works.

I expect that using a column/XY combination chart for this would also work. The challenge could be getting enough narrow "floating columns" so that we can approximate the sloped lines adequately. This is part of why I think an area/XY combination will be easier.

I have tried this method and cannot replicate the desired picture that I attached on the last post. Can anyone show this done in excel?

Can you post what you have tried? Explain what it did and what it did not do correctly? "I have tried and cannot replicate" doesn't help us help you determine where you are going wrong.

In the attachment, I worked out Jon's example and one that looks like your picture -- perhaps you can explain what you are doing differently?
