Average data from duplicate dates in a table

I have a big table with dates in column A and data points in column B
Each data point is a single test result taken at the corresponding date in column A.
However 2+ data points are recorded for each day.

    eg

    A B
    date 1 test 1
    date 1 test 1B
    date 2 test 2
    date 2 test 2B
    date 2 test 2C
    date 3 test 3
    date 3 test 3B

In a third column I want to average all test results for each day, however VLOOKUP doesn't like duplicates!
How can I get around this?

I would use a pivot table for that kind of work.

If you post an small excel file without confidential information, (and post it on the forum), I will show it to you.

Please also add the desired result in your file.

Attempting to create something like this where the numerous daily results average in a third column.
Here I've just done it manually.

Your data is not always the same.

Sometimes you have 3 and sometimes you have 2 test.

You always want to average (between 2 test).

If not, your answers (manualy added) are not correct.

    See the attached file.
