    Question Combinations of 3 variables

    Hi,

I'm pretty inexperienced with excel and would like to get the all of the possible combinations (order doesn't matter) of 3 variables, let's say A, B and C, where:

    A has 2 values,
B has also 2 values and,
    C has 3 values.

Each combination must have one instance of each variable, for ex. A1,B12,C1; A2,B3,C1, ...

Could you please offer me a short explanation of how you resolved it so that I could understand it better in the future?

    Thank you!!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can you just clarify from where you get the 12 in "A1,B12,C1"?

    Re: Combinations of 3 variables

    Hi,

Sorry, it's a typo. For the sake of providing an example, I meant to write A1,B2,C1; A2,B3,C1... to say that in any case,
you can't have occurrence of the sort: A1,A2,C1...

    Hoping I've made myself clear..

    Regards,

    M

    Re: Combinations of 3 variables

    Still not sure I understand.

If, as you say, "B has also 2 values", from where does "B3" come?

Perhaps you should write a full list of expected results to clarify.

    Regards

    Re: Combinations of 3 variables

You're right, I was distracted when I was typing, I apologize.. it was just a general example..

Yes A and B have 2 possible values each so in the end the combinations could be:

    A1,B1,C1

    A1,B1,C2

    A1,B1,C3

    A1,B2,C1

    A1,B2,C2

    A1,B2,C3

    etc, etc.

The workbook at https://app.box.com/s/47b28f19d794b25511be has both formula- and VBA-based methods for doing this.

I just checked the link -- it's fine. Maybe a problem on your end?

The link does work, I just downloaded it. If it's a problem accessing the site or a network restriction or something, here's the file.

Yeah, I believe it's some sort of network restriction... Thanks a lot everyone, I managed to download the second one!
