Dynamic Named Ranged & Indirect Data Validation

    Hi there,

So I've perused this thread but to be honest I'm not sure the solution works for me. http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...ompatible.html

I have an order form that works in conjunction with a search function. Basically I have a few hundred rows, each with a data validation dropdown for the results of a specific search for that row.

Items can be searched via a 6 digit item code, or through simply typing some characters of the item they're looking for. Currently this is the code in my Data Validation:

TextSearchItem2 is my named range, and I have hundreds of these, one for the results of each specific search. I'm looking to be able to copy my data validation down the column for a couple hundred rows without having to manually go in to the data validation for each one and change my named range manually (TextSearchItem3, TextSearchItem4, and so on).

    Appreciate any help.

    I'll just say this:
If you have hundreds of named ranges...you're almost certainly taking the wrong approach.

Perhaps it's time to back up a step and give us more details about what you're doing.

    OrderForm-Upload.xlsm

Thanks Ron, I was thinking the same thing but I feel like I'm stretching Excel's limits so I wasn't sure there was another way.

File attached. I've replaced my item names with some dummy words but basically on the TextSearch tab you'll see I have the first few of what was going to be hundreds of individual searches, 1 for each row.

    Thanks.

Just in case it wasn't clear I used named ranges so my data validation dropdown always ends at the last row with a value. If there's another way to find that maybe that could solve my problem?

Re: Dynamic Named Ranged & Indirect Data Validation

    Hey folks,

Just curious if anyone had any suggestions as to how I should perhaps go about this instead? Or if there are not, any ideas on my original question?

    Thanks!
