Cannot change axis label format

Hi all,
I have a chart that has an x-axis formatted to be hh:mm but when I update the chart data the format displays as dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm AM/PM even though the axis options still show the format to be hh:mm.
If I try to change the format to something else the dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm AM/PM format still remains.
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have been using this spreadsheet for months with no problems, now it changes the format every time and will not allow me to change it back. (btw the sheet is not protected).

In the axis > Format Menu, you can search for .. Number Format > Check Box "Link to Source" which will pick the same Number Format as in the source range..

Using 2013 Excel.. in excel 2010.. select Axis > and press Ctrl + F1, and search for the same..
