Matching locations

Hoping you can help!

I've got a huge great list of locations, but they are slightly different. I need to replace one data set with the other.

The data below is a very small snippet from two sets of data that are about 3,000 rows each.

What I need to do is 'broad match' the second to the first, and replace the first. So I'm using locations that fit certain criteria.

I don't understand what you are trying to achieve. are you looking at a big list and every time there is a Lyneham, you want to replace it with R.L.S.? Is Lyneham in a cell on its own, or with other text?

In column B, I may have 'Southampton.' In column A, I may have 'Southampton Airport', 'Southampton', 'Southampton Central' and so on.. I want all that reference 'Southampton xxxxxx' in column A to change to what it is in column B. There are many variations of a town name in column A. I need them to actually be what is written in column B.
