    Copy and Paste while Filtered

I have a large Excel spreadsheet and I use the filter feature to update information. Is there a way to copy and paste one column into another while in Filter mode? For example Column A is Date of Hire and Column B is Most Recent Hire Date. Some data in Column A is 00/00/0000. When I filter by the 00/00/0000 I want to copy data from Column B into Column A. Can this be done? All I can figure to do at this point is copy and past one row at a time and there are hundres of rows that need copying. Thanks!

Re: Copy and Paste while Filtered

Put this formula in the first visible cell in column B after filtering (assume that is B15):

    =A15

Then you can use Copy and Paste to copy that formula down the other visible rows (it will only copy into the visible cells - don't use Fill, as that will copy it into the hidden cells as well). Then you can remove the filter (Select All) and then use Copy/Paste Special/Values on column B.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: sorry, I got it the wrong way round. Put the formula in A15 (=B15), copy down, then use Copy/Paste Special/Values on column A.

That worked! Thank you so much. Guess I didn't need to filter at all. Thanks again.

No, you still need to apply the filter to get the blank dates (only), and then copy that formula down only the cells which have blank dates (or, rather, those showing 00/00/0000).

    Hope this helps.
