Technical Issue - How to open Excel 2010 documents on separate windows

Hi is there a way to open Excel documents on separate windows?

I tried going into the Options, Advanced, and unchecking Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), but then when I try to open documents, a window appears saying that There was a problem sending the comment to the program.

Then I tried going into regedit, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Excel.Sheet.8/shell/Open/commend and changing the default by adding (space)"%1". but it keeps giving me an error message saying Cannot edit : Error writing the value's new contents.

Please help! I will try anything. Thank you.

Yes, open Excel and open the file that you want open. Hold down the shift key and open Excel a second time. You will now have 2 instances of Excel running and they can have either the same file open or different files open.

Opening the program a second time from the Excel icon (instead of double clicking on the file) will open an independent window. To get your file of choice to open in the preferred window, drag/drop or use Open file (again, instead of double click).
