Creating a pie chart

I have a column of survey demographic data that I would like to convert into a pie chart. I highlight the cells and go to insert, pie chart. The data (male,female and "my gender doesn't fit these rolls") is shown as the title of the chart. How do I make a pie chart that shows the percentages of the these responses in a pie chart?
