conditional formatting: 3 colour scale, which reads only numbers not text

I've a column with a 3 colour scale on it. The column is either numbers, or numbers with a plus sign after it. Any suggestions?

you can use the isnumber() function to track down the 'numbers with a plus sign' and conditional format them as required

Right... how do I do that in the context of a 3 colour scale? It doesn't like formulas in the numberbox.

OK - what I'm looking for exactly is to format all cells on the red/amber/green scale - even the ones with + in them.

The list calculates the time taken for a list of processes, using

So that, if there is no FINISHDATE it uses today's date with a plus sign. That indicates how many days it has taken so far.

Formatting in the above screenshot can't do a 3 colour scale I think?

(Sorry for the delay; I've bad connection today. And I'm making limericks...)
