Broken hyperlinks to files

Well, did some searching, found some posts with similar issues but could not implement any solutions. I have a file (sits on a server and is accessed by two computers) that has links to files (the links are so that you can find the file easily, not data links) that are on the same server. All of a sudden, the links changed and cannot be accessed. Both PC's are Windows 7 with Excel 2013. There is no "sharing", the file is just opened by one user or another (one at a time).

There links were originally of the format: \\PSSERVER\PSI_Documents\QUOTES\Customer name\ABC-123.doc

They have now changed to something like: C:\Users\jim\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\Customer name\ABC-123.doc ("jim" is the other user).

In doing my searching, it sounds like I should be able to get into "edit links" under the Data tab but that option is grayed out.

Can somebody please help?

Thanks!

The new link looks like it is pointing you a local hard drive, not the server C:\Users\ji...............
Have you tried to re-link them manually and then save them again?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

I didn't try re-linking them but I did add another link to a new file which is still working. I am not sure the other user has opened up the file though (which is whose local drive they are point to). I'll try that when I get a chance.

So, yes, if I manually edit the link it works fine; at least after I edited, saved and then opened the file. I suspect there must have been some kind of "event" that triggered the re-linking to the currently "incorrect" links and that's what I'm trying to figure out. There's way too many files to manually edit all the links though; is there any way to "dial back the clock"?

Thanks,
Mark

Have you spoken to your IT department/person yet?

Sure, I talk to myself all the time! Sorry, we're a whopping 10-person company and outsource our IT. I did submit a request to see how old of a back-up copy I could retrieve out of the mist in the clouds. That might work as a band-aid fix as I could possibly add the missing data if the links in the older file still work but I'd still like to know if there's a way to "fix" the links.

Find/Replace- Look in Formulas. Old path. . . Enter the new path. . .seems like it might work.

Thanks, tried it but that doesn't seem to work. This is a hyperlink, not a link that's part of a formula (like a lookup); it's a number entry in the cell and then you right click>Hyperlink>Existing File or webpage>point to the file and hit "okay". You end up with a hyperlink on the cell that brings up the linked file so that you can easily retrieve it.

Re: Broken hyperlinks to files

So I got the oldest copy I could from our IT service, which was about a week old, and the links all worked so it was relatively easy to add the missing data. Still would like some help on how to eliminate this in the future. The only thing I can think of is that we did an office repair on the other computer since the spell check was working very erratically. We did the after the data from which the backed-up copy was received.
