I've seen this happen on another sheet but I'm not sure how it happens:
I would like to be able to type text into a blank (no fill) cell and have it fill with a color automatically after the text is entered

Do you want different colours for different entries, or just one colour if the cell is not empty?
You can do this with conditional formatting - which cells do you want this to occur in?
Pete
its called conditional formatting
you can add all sorts of formatting to a cell automatically depending on whats typed in
for 2007 or 2010 excel version
Conditional Formatting 0
Highlight applicable range >>
Select the range of cells you want to apply to - assuming it was A1:C100
Home Tab >> Styles >> Conditional Formatting
New Rule >> Use a formula to determine which cells to format
Edit the Rule Description: Format values where this formula is true:
=A1<>""
Format… [Number, Font, Border, Fill]
choose the format you would like to apply when the condition is true
OK >> OK

Thanks! The conditional formatting worked. I used for cells G2:G41. I wanted them to turn green after I put a check mark in there, but seeing how this works I can use it for many other things.
your welcome, thanks for the rep
