    Renaming A Shape

    Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to rename a shape in excel. I've added a rectangle to the spreadsheet, and by default, excel calls it "Rectangle 1", but I would like to call it "Box 1" is there a way to do it?

I tried the name manager, but it doesn't seem to work.

    thanks

    Hello,

Select the shape and in the name box where you see "Rectangle 1", replace the text as required.
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

"Tomorrow I'm going to be famous. All I need is a tennis racket and a hat".

I tried that, but it defaults the name back to "Rectangle 1" is there some kind of setting that prevents the name from being changed?

Did you have the shape selected, then enter the name in the name box then hit ENTER? I have tested this and it does work.

That's exactly what I did. but the name defaults back to Rectangle 1. I also tried to change the name of a range of cells in the work sheet, but it also does not let me do it...

Never Mind, I think I figured out why it wasn't working. BOX1 is a default cell range in excel. that's why it didn't work

    Re: Renaming A Shape

I normally use the selection pane to rename objects.

ALT+F10 to display selection pane. you can then select the name in the list and F2 to edit the name
