    Sorting Table with Cell References

I'm trying to sort a table that has two columns containing 20 cell references in each column. I've tried highlighting the table and clicking A/Z and Z/A but nothing moves. If I make the table a static range I can do this easily. Why can't I do it with a table that contains cell references pointing to data in another location on the worksheet?

Could you post an example workbook so we can see what you're working with?

It is likely that the cell references in the table are preventing the sorting of the data. Here is an example of a table that will not sort because of the references to data outside the table.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Isn't there a way of doing this though, because surely you can have a dynamic table that you can sort. If it's static, I have to keep manually keep going through a process to fetch the latest data from another location on the worksheet.

Perhaps you would be better off using a lookup of some description rather than referencing the cells as per Ron's example (if that's what you have in your workbook).

Difficult to say for sure without seeing an example of your workbook (hence me asking earlier).

If my example is what you have, sort the original data and the table should sort accordingly. If you are wanting to be assured that you can go back to the original order, enter an additional column to the original data numbered 1,2,3..... so that you can sort on that to get back to the original order.
