Excel keeps changing to Manual Calculation

    Hi guys,

Here's a weird thing: Yesterday, sometime between about 3:00-4:00, apparently my Excel changed itself from Auto Calculation to Manual. I didn't do anything that should have made anything change and had been using the spreadsheet I was working in several times through the day with no problem.
This morning, I changed it back to Auto Calculation and things were fine for a while, but then, maybe 15 minutes ago, it changed back to Manual Calculation, all by itself!

Anybody have any idea what might be going on? (Besides the idea of gremlins in the works, LOL!)

Aside from that, when it DOES calculate, it's not giving me the expected answers!

    Thanks

    Jenny

Re: Excel keeps changing to Manual Calculation

    Hi Glenn,

I read that and it was interesting. However, I don't have ANY spreadsheets where it's set to Manual; that's not something I ever have a use for. And this morning, just like yesterday, I'm actually working in the spreadsheetand it suddenly changes from Auto to Manual, with no warning.

    Weird, huh?

Mmmm. It is odd. I've certainly experienced problems with sheets that come from our Finance people, as described in the other thread. i haven't seen Excel suddenly deciding to switch from auto to manual...

I looked at that and tried to follow the instructions but it gave me an "unable to carry out..." error. (I forget exactly what it said). He seemed to be describing the same thing you were: when opening a sheet, it's already set to Manual. But mine is changing while I'm working in it.

(I always try to have odd questions; I don't want you guys to be bored, LOL!)

Hopefully, this can be solved, it's kind of a pain. It's also strange that, when it DOES calculate - whether through changing back to Auto or F9 to refresh - it's still not giving the expected result.

As far as I know, it's up to date; the company's in charge of that.

    Dear zookeepertx!

Nothing happens randomly, just do not always know the reason.
Today I dealt POS Ship Approaching DateA.xlsm file.
I saw that, but I do not know why, you used the xlCalculationManual xl and CalculationAutomatic instructions.
Probably broke off the run of the macro code while you tested , before it rebounded to the automatic calculation. "Born a virus".

When I figured out what happened, firmly press the * key.

    Goodbye

Re: Excel keeps changing to Manual Calculation

    Hi again Pan314!

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The worksheet I was working with when this occurred doesn't have any macros applied to it at all. It's just a research sheet where I input data from a couple of sources and compare them. And, both times, it was working fine when I started entering data. A number of cells refer to a single "source" cell. When I change the source cell, the others change their results.
When I was working with the sheet Tuesday, this was working just as normal. But then, when I made another change to one of the "source" cells, the results in the other cells didn't change to match the new information. So, I checked the settings and it now was on Manual Calculation! I changed it back to Automatic Calculation and thought everything was fine. But then, yesterday, the exact same thing happened: I was using the sheet, it was operating perfectly as usual, then it was suddenly on Manual again! I just don't get it!

I saw that, but I do not know why, you used the xlCalculationManual xl and CalculationAutomatic instructions.
I was told, back when I started using macros, that you should start by making that Manual and then change back to Automatic at the end of the macro. From what I understand, this was so the sheet won't spend time trying to update calculations while the macro is running. So, I always put it in a macro.

Thanks for your help working on figuring this out!

    Jenny

    Dear Jenny

If I understand correctly, your file has been no macro. So I can not explain the phenomenon. The macros I used to examine the operation step by step. , Sometimes I stop the run before completion. Sometimes this involves unpleasant things. You did not interrupt or stop the error code is running. Therefore, I can not think of anything else.
We hope this does not happen again freaks.

I do not mean about one week. During this time, you can write questions. If I have time I will deal with it.

    Happy new year!

    Hi Pan314,

So far, this has not happened again, so, maybe it was just a one-time thing. I hope it doesn't happen again, LOL!
