Need help with Vlookup/Hlookup between 2 sheets, please

Hey guys - i'm new to this site, so not sure if i will accurately be able to describe what i'm looking for.. but here goes! I'm trying to get info from sheet 1 (production schedule) into sheet 2 (inventory). In Sheet 1 B & C are the product columns & In Sheet 2 Columns A & B are a product code and product description.

In Sheet 1, there are approx 2 weeks of production schedules hidden, but starting in AB - BF, i would like to get the quantities displayed onto the cooresponding dates on sheet 2.

In Sheet 2 Columns C - N are irrelevant for this formula, but i wanted to include this so my formulas would be accurate. In Column Q I will need to display 0 if there is none of this item being produced that day. However if there was something being produced, i would need to indicate the number listed on sheet 1.

I sure hope this makes some sense... i tried a vlookup with a match formula and could not get it to provide anything except #N/A.

    Thanks in advance..

i guess i should note - i do currently have a formula in those cells that will work, however everytime i go to add a new item to the production schedule if i add it above lines i have to re-work the formulas and change the hlookup to look at the row below the one it was looking at. I just would like it to be more automated if it can be!

    Thanks..

Try the formula below in cell Q3 and copy down and to other days as necessary:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

You will need to extend the ranges to take account of all the hidden columns.

Initially it will give you an N/A error in 4 of the 5 rows. This is because the product names do not all match. For example, on the Inventory sheet you have "White Mac Cookies" but on the Production Schedule sheet you have "White Choc Mac Nut Cookies". Make these all match and the formula will work.

    thank you!! that worked perfectly.

One other question. if there are two lines with the same products on the production schedule tab - how do i get my formula on the inventory tab to display the sum of both?

THANK YOU AGAIN.. YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

You would need a different formula for that. Use the below in Q3 then again copy down and into relevant columns:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Is there some reason why you are making your data go across the worksheet instead of vertically? A horizontal arrangement of your data makes it difficult to make use of the real powers of Excel whereas vertical arrangements of data can be calculated quite efficiently and easily.
