Optimization modeling on financial forecasting

Hello. I'm learning about optimization using solver in Excel. Has anyone ever done (or know of any good resources) for using optimization for financial forecast. For example, sales channels with associated cost and you can grow each of the channels within a certain range and then you use solver to get to the best growth strategies based on cost/constraints for a period of x years.

Perhaps some usefull information could be found here?
