    Competency Ratings

    Hello everyone.

I'm Michael. 24 and out of my depth with an Excel spreadsheet!

I am a bit of an Excel novice but have been requested to produce a spreadsheet at work. I am struggling with which formulas I need to use as it is a bit beyond my basic Excel knowledge.

I have 6 "competencies" which are listed from A3-A8. I have the months of the year (December excluded) across the top from C1-M1.

In each level, you can score L1, L2 or L3.

    Now for the questions...

If you score 3 or more L1's in a year on one competency, overall you are an L1 which I want to state as an "Improvement Required" in cell O3. Similarly, if you score 8+ L3's in a year, overall you are an L3 which I want to state as an "Exceed Expectations" in cell O3. If you don't fit either of these criteria, you are an L2 which I want to state as "Achieves Expectations" also in cell O3. Is this possible and if so, which formula would I use?

Another (I think) slightly more complicated formula I would like to integrate into this spreadsheet is in cell C16 (and relevant for all cells through to M16 horizontally). Is it possible to take an average of text values? So if there are 7 L2s and 4 L3s over the 11 month period, overall the average would be an L2. I would like to take an "average" of the values from C3-C8 (each competency per month) to give an "overall" competency. Essentially, the competency that appears the most is likely to be the average.

If I need to make anything clearer, I'll try (I can't promise!) but any help you can provide would be most appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Michael.

    Re: Competency Ratings

    Apologies, Alan.

It was a rather urgent query that I hoped for an immediate answer to. I will read the rules now.

    Cheers,
    Michael.
