Excel Dependent Drop-down Lists or hierarchy dropdown lsit

Do you know how to do hierarchy/dependent drop down list in Excel.

Basically in the Document Request No Tab if someone chooses the MAID Discipline from a dropdown based Column J. The MAID Metadata (Defined List Column K - AC) will provide a refined drop down list based upon MAID Metadata list and not to scroll down the whole list.

I have tried to use the =INDIRECT in the Source box of Validation but the dropdown didnt seem to work

Can someone please help or tell me what I am doing wrong

Re: Excel Dependent Drop-down Lists or hierarchy dropdown lsit

    Siv,

    Thanks for your help.

I still don’t appear to see a dependent dropdown based in B6 upon the criteria in MAID Discipline: (B5)

What I what to achieve as an example if someone chose from the dropdown menu CIV - CIVILS (B5) then MAID Metadata (B6) will only list L3:L36

And if someone chose COM - COMMUNICATIONS (B5) then MAID Metadata (B6) will only M2:M29

    And so on.

Is there also a way that the range for the MAID metadata not to pick up blanks

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Named range created "MAID_Metadata_List"
    =INDEX(INDEX('Document Request No'!$F$2:$AC$112,,MATCH('Document Request No'!$B$5,'Document Request No'!$F$1:$AC$1,0)),1):INDEX(INDEX('Document Request No'!$F$2:$AC$112,,MATCH('Document Request No'!$B$5,'Document Request No'!$F$1:$AC$1,0)),COUNTA(INDEX('Document Request No'!$F$2:$AC$112,,MATCH('Document Request No'!$B$5,'Document Request No'!$F$1:$AC$1,0))))
