Exclamation Default text to show in dropdown list

I have searched and searched but cant figure this out. I have created a list using the data validation (Not tables or dynamic) I need the default word to automatically show as --Select-- So that anyone who fills out the sheet knows where they need to choose from the list. However- when I put it in like that, it shows up only after you click on the down arrow. It is blank until you pick from the list (I dont want it to be a selectable word- so that part is good so far). How can I get that to be the default word that automatically shows up when they open the file? I posted a little pick of what I mean.

I really dont want to start over with my lists because I have a ton of conditional formatting in there already along with other formulas that took me forever to figure out

Any help is greatly appreciated. -Im using 2013

    Thanks

Well what you could do is just type ---Select--- in all the cells where you will have drop down lists and then build the drop down list. As soon as somebody selects from the list select won't be there anymore, but if you are using a template each time for a one time use, it shouldn't make a difference. If you choose this option make sure you type an apostrophe before the word or Excel will give you a problem. Don't worry it won't show in the cell. So type '----Select---- and you will only see this ----Select----.

Re: Default text to show in dropdown list

Ok thanks, This works...Kinda like if I was just to add it to the list and pick it. I can use it as a temp fix, but is there any way to make it be a default text that it will go back to if someone clears their pick from the cell? Even if it was a background pick in the cell?

    Thanks again
