Need Help with Counting Function for multiple rows (with conditions)

Hi,

I am trying to figure out how make excel count filled-in cells within two rows,
but if both cells within the same column (but different rows) have text filled-in,
I want that to only be counted once.

As an example:

ExcelHelp.jpg

In this example, both rows 1 and 2 should be counted, but since Column A has text
in both rows, I only want it counted once. Thus, the end result should be: 5
