Linking excel cell to a specific onenote notebook/document

Attempting to link my client notes from onenote to a client tracking system in excel. Would like to have a specific cell assigned to each client that when clicked in excel, will take me to the updated onenote notebook.

Is there a way to do this? Attempted to insert a hyperlink but failed...

If not possible, is there a different option than onenote that will work?

I do not use Onenote, so I created a new file and had no problems opening the file using the Insert Hyperlink from the Ribbon.

What exactly happened?

I received Two security warning about opening unknown files, but otherwise it was a straight forward operation.

Select Insert Tab
Select Hyperlink

In the Link to Box, on the left side of popup, Select Existing File or Web Page if it is not already selected.
In the Look In box, navigate to the location of the file.

You may need to double click several folders to get to the location of your file.
My test files were located in the folder called: C:\Users\xxx\Documents\OneNote Notebooks\Test File
Then Select the client file, IE Client A.one
Click OK

If you do not want the full path displayed in the cell, in the Text To Display box at the top of the Hyperlink window,
change it to something more suitable, like Client A One Note
